  • BBBB Loop Tour; 80kms. Grade - Med-hard

    February 28, 2021

    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34738739

A tour of some of the lost towns of the western Wombat Forest and Egerton Forest. Starting from Ballan we visit Blakeville, Barkstead and Bungal. En-route we also pass through the equally quiet settlements of Spargo Creek, Bolwarrah, Gordon and Mt Egerton, as well as the Spargo Ck Mineral Spring and Moorabool Reservoir. This is a train-based ride but as a loop, people may also choose to travel to Ballan by car.

Note: there will be the option for cutting this road short from Gordon or Mt Egerton if conditions require it.

  • Yea Intro to Bikecamping; 80kms. Grade - Beginner

    March 6, 2021 - March 8, 2021

    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35009482

An ideal introduction to bicycle camping with a gentle run along the Great Victorian Rail Trail through Trawool and Kerrisdale to Yea. This will involve one or two short steep pinches of 100-200m but is otherwise all railway locomotive gradients of 1-in-30 maximum. You will need access to the use of some camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping matt). Camp stove, mess-kit and food is preferable but not essential as there are plenty of cafes and eateries in Yea. We will spend a day in and around Yea as a rest day, with activities including the wetlands walks and Y Water Discovery Centre, the Railway Station park, and possibly even a ride out to the Cheviot tunnel and/or the Killingworth Road to view the Goulburn River for possible platypus sightings.

Our return journey will retrace the route of the rail trail back to Tallarook.

The Yea Riverside Caravan Park has perhaps the best campground personal amenities of any park in Victoria, and the site grounds are a delight!

  • Hawaiian Shirt Ride to North Point Cafe. Grade - Beginners; distance - 25km

    March 14, 2021

This is a special dress ride. Pick out your Hawaiian shirt and casual shorts then meet at Federation Square at 10am for a cruisy ride down through Albert Park's palms and the beaches of St Kilda to the North Point Cafe in Brighton. We may stop for coffee at Acland St en-route. This is a beginners grade ride with almost zero hills. We should be at the cafe for lunch before a return ride up the coast again, perhaps going to Port Melbourne for the Sandridge Trail back to the city.

  • Cycology - Coast to Coast (USA)

    March 18, 2021

The highlight tonight will be a blast from the past. Gary Tenant was inspired by Keith Dunstan's (journalist) and Jeff Hook's (cartoonist) ride across the USA in the Bicentennial year, 1976. In the summer of 1982, Gary rode the 4800 mile journey along the Trans America trail, from Portland, Oregon to Williamsburg, Virginia, together with ten young people discovering the beauty, the wonder, the pain, the exhilaration and most importantly, the generosity of spirit that was America.
Gary will share a few stories, photos, reflections, the Hillman touring bike, as well as a fun video of the group's reunion, 36 years later in June 2018 in Wisconsin, USA.

  • Kilmore to Heathcote Backroads Loop. Grade - Hard (154 kms; 1910m)

    March 20, 2021 - March 21, 2021

    Day 1 - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34727655
    Day 2 - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34727810

Come out to explore some of the backroads to Heathcote. This will be without the rail-trail. We will leave Kilmore East station to ride to Broadford for our morning cafe stop. Then we ride out along the Glenaroua Road to take a series of lanes leading through quiet hill country, stopping for lunch along the way. We continue to the Seymour-Tooborac Rd and run into Tooborac. We may have time to visit the boutique brewery at the pub or Merindoc Winery. From here the final run into Heathcote takes another back lane route.

We will camp here at Queen Meadow Cravan Park.

Next day we will travel a route west of the Northern Highway through the Spring Plain Conservation Reserve to Baynton. We may choose to stop in at the Granite Hills Winery, then follow the Burke & Wills Track to Lancefield for lunch. The afternoon ride takes a very quiet series of minor roads through Tantaraboo and Willowmavin back to Kilmore East.
