Saturday is looking like a great day for a ride. We'll be riding along scenic bike paths skirting Yarra river and Plenty river, the terrain is pretty much flatish with some gravel sections, the riding pace will be lively but we'll regroup often. Lunch stop will be at Greensborough.
Wombat Forest is a little gem in Melbourne's backyard, great scenery, fresh air, lots of trees, and not many humans- the perfect place to go for a ride. This time we'll check out a section to the north between Trentham and Blackwood.
The terrain will be mainly well maintained unsealed roads with a some rough bits thrown in to keep us awake. A reasonable level of fitness and endurance will be required but it's also not a race, the pace will vary according to the terrain, this ride will be suitable for gravel beginners but not cycling beginners. Bring enough snacks & water for the day.
Bikes to be in good working order, touring or gravel bikes with minimum 35mm+ tyres will be ok.
This is mostly a gravel ride with less than 10kms of bitumen. The ride will take us into the bush of the Otways as soon as we leave Anglesea and that's where we'll be for the rest of the ride.
Bring enough food & water for the day, we'll stop for a snack somewhere along the way.
A coffee/snack stop can also be added at Aireys Inlet before heading back to Anglesea.
Meet at Jeff's Shed and start the ride along the Sandridge Rail Trail to Port Melbourne and the Bay Trail along the beach and through Westgate Park to the bike punt at Fishermans Bend. The ride will then continue along the Hobsons Bay Trail to Williamstown where we have the option of a coffee stop before continuing on along the beach to Altona.
There are a few bailout options on this ride so don't be shy if you're a beginner.
At Altona we have the option of having dinner- there's pizza, fish & chips, burgers, and many other places to eat or get some takeaway and sit in the park.
