About

The Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club has run continuously since 1973. You can read more about our history here.

Our core purpose is to promote the enjoyment of cycle touring.  We see cycle touring as a way of connecting with interesting places and people while getting outdoors and into nature.

The club facilitates the sharing of knowledge and experience, through rides, gatherings, talks and other events.  Equipment, navigation, logistics and fitness are all skills that members develop by being a part of the club.

While we support all things cycling, MBTC isn’t primarily an advocacy group, focusing on rides and gatherings.

How we operate

MBTC is an incorporated association registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV), and like many other not-for-profit sports or community clubs in Victoria we follow CAV’s model rules.  View our club rules here (Updated 2024).

Our committee is responsible for keeping the club running smoothly ensuring the club is adhering with these rules.  Read more about the MBTC committee

Social gatherings

The Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club holds non-cycling events for members and potential members.

These social meetings are a chance for us to catch up away from our bikes and enjoy a meal or nibbles. Club gatherings usually include a guest speaker, workshop, slide show, or ‘show-and-tell’.

We are always looking for ideas for our social gatherings, whether that is a speaker, topic or even a venue. If you have an idea, please get in touch!

As an incorporated club, MBTC is required to hold an Annual General Meeting. This is usually held in May and covers important club business including appointment of committee members.

Core meetings or gatherings for MBTC include:

  • Summer Meeting
  • Annual General Meeting (usually in May)
  • Winter Meeting
  • Christmas BBQ
