    August 19, 2018  9:30 am - 4:00 pm

    https://ridewithgps.com/events/55292-jack-s-magazine-historical-tour-29kms-so

    Ride Leaders- Vera & Edmund

We'll ride a combo of mostly bike paths and a few back streets from Federation Square to Maribyrnong where we will go on a 1 hour tour of Jack's Magazine at 11am. After the tour we'll continue along the Maribyrnong River and Steele Creek to Niddrie where we can get lunch and a coffee on Keilor Rd. From here it's a short ride to Glenbervie Station or for those who are keen to keep riding, the Moonee Ponds Creek trail is nearby and can be followed back to Fed Sq.

Jack’s Magazine is a former explosives storage facility by the banks of the Maribyrnong River in Maribyrnong. It was opened in 1878- initially for the storage of gunpowder. The 12-hectare site includes a bluestone perimeter wall, tramways, tunnels, earth blast mounds and an array of buildings. It was decommissioned in the 1990s and has been locked up and unused since.

Jack’s Magazine is on the Victorian Heritage Register and recognised for its architectural, historical and technological significance.

    Ride Leader- Ruben

Ladies and Gents, please join me to explore this beautiful part of Gippsland.

Day 1 (75 k’s): We’ll meet opposite Yarragon station at 8.30 am (South side across the highway) for a coffee and a bite . Train from Flinders St departs 6.51 am.
Then we take the Yarragon-Leongatha Rd for a steady climb for first 10 k’s to admire the valley below. We should be just in time to have lunch at Leongatha, there we take The Great Southern Rail Trail to Konwarra from there we ride another 25 k’s to Inverloch where there is plenty of overnight accommodation and eateries.

Day 2 (62 k’s): We have a quick brekkie and ride 20 k’s to Wontagghi where we can have a proper meal. There we pick the Nyora-Wontagghi Rail Trail, we could stop for a drink at Kilcunda. At Anderson we peel off to Philipp Island along the bike path, past San Remo over the bridge to Cowes Jetty.
Ferry to Stony Point departs 1.00 pm so we may have a chance to have lunch while waiting for the ferry. Ferry fare is $13/$8 conc. but is free on Sundays for concession card holders, bikes pay $4.

I’m limiting numbers to 6 riders as the Sprinter Train from Stony Point to Frankston only can carry 6 bikes and the conductor likes to leave space for wheelchairs/prams. Or you can wait for 1:40 hours for the next train or ride another 34 k’s to Frankston. Please indicate your preference at time of booking. Ferry can carry 10/12 bikes.
